This is news all of Liverpool fans around the world would love to hear. Two of Liverpool’s most prolific goal scorers during their time at the club returning to where they can say they felt they hit their career peak. Could anyone easily forget the most dramatic season Liverpool played in 2013/2014 when they almost thought they had won the Premier League with Suarez, Sturridge, Coutinho and Sterling’s devastating combo taking every team on the way until Manchester City just, almost just took the trophy from them with just 2 points. It’s a season Suarez and Coutinho will be well remembered for. Luis Suarez and Phillipe Coutinho forced their way out of the clubs seeking greener pastures in Spain and glory in Europe. Whilst Suarez achieved the feat to some extent it was not so for Coutinho who struggled for regular startup and form. Liverpool cashed in on Coutinho and brought in record signings Allison Becker and Virgil Van Dijk and the introduction of these two stalwarts brought the 2 trophies Coutinho and Suarez left Liverpool for. Funny as it sounds and with the emotional saying and letting go of Klopp on Coutinho “If you stay here they would build a statue for your outside Anfield, but if you leave you would just be another player”. How true was this. The boss knew what the then 25 year old should expect in a turf dominated by the legendary Messi and Ronaldo, and it was so.
Having put the past out of the debate it would be fair to say that both Luiz Suarez and Coutinho never found the fame and decoration in Spain that they enjoyed back at Anfiled. Suarez having continued his goal spree at Barcelona was still was looked over as he was playing with Lionel Messi where as Coutinho lost his form under Ernesto Valverde and spent most of the time on the bench. Suarez had a tough exit out of Barcelona and left the club in tears for the treatment he received and found comfort at Atletico Madrid. Still he was missing the warmth of Anfield. “If I to ever return to the premier league I will only play for Liverpool” was what he said when asked by media a few years back and it looks like it would become a reality. With Mo Salah tipped to move to Real Madrid this summer this could be a sensational return of a player the fans love. Klopp wants an experienced free scoring striker and the 34 year old could just give what Klopp demands. Suarez with his fitness could play for another 2 years and Liverpool would benefit immensely with a few more feathers on the hat. Having said that a move for Suarez would only be possible if Mo Salah decides to leave in Summer. Being burned by his treatment at Barcelona, he has been inspired to score 19 goals in 25 games for Atletico leading the title race. He might not stay another season in Spain and could say that he would personally would love a return to the club he felt home.
Barcelona has finally placed £35m price tag on Coutinho which has tipped a few English clubs. Arsenal being one of them. If Barcelona sells Coutinho for the asked price to another club they could use that money to pay back the due to Liverpool however if they sell Coutinho to Liverpool they would still be short of £15m. Either way it’s Liverpool’s gain. Gini Wijnaldum would move out as a free agent by the end of the season which is more likely and Klopp has to quickly find a replacement and he would find the quality he needs in Phillipe Coutinho. His scoring ability, movement in the midfield and long range shots would only be a joy to watch. Thiago and Fabinho would be permanent in midfield next season and if Coutinho joins the duo, the Mid 3 would be lethal.
It would all depend on what FSG and Klopp decide but as fans we would all want Suarez and Coutinho, the two players whom we loved, to return to Anfield.
